Never underestimate a kid’s ability, to tell the truth. The stranger the story, the more truth it may have to it. Just ask Duke, the dog pet of three siblings.
When all told the same story, it became easier to further inquire. Their parents happened upon a neighbor with a camera on their doorbell. Needless to say, their tale checked out. Most seeing the video agree the dog was airlifted by a sudden, spontaneously-formed mini-tornado.
Pretty out of the ordinary when reconsidering we’re talking about a pooch weighing @ 70 lbs. Understandably so, Duke was shaken for a short minute. Then, with that toddler-level mentality of theirs, the doggie went back to play with its caretakers. Talk about a short, short-term memory.
In these situations, most adults would adopt the attitude of an unbelieving Thomas. (unless I see it, I won’t believe it). With a kid’s penchant to make things up based on their overactive imagination during that stage of their development, it must’ve been even more unbelievable to agree it was true.
People have understandably been inquiring about Duke’s health. Being that it was a short haunt, the Lab was seemingly unharmed. The story might’ve turned out quite different if one other child would’ve been present.
The family’s youngest son is about the same weight as Duke. The kid could’ve been picked up, then thrown around & dropped in a hurtful way. Just one more thing to be mindful of when livin’ it up outdoors.
Per the local national weather service, it was most definitely a so-called ‘dust devil’ that picked up Duke. Due to warmer dry conditions, there’s been a sudden uptick of these types of sudden mini-tornadoes. These are exactly the reasons for a camera to ‘save the day’ on an otherwise flying dog ‘tall tale’.
Next time you feel tempted to dismiss a kid’s story, think back on this anecdote.
