In Seoul, South Korea, a dog wandered the streets. People noticed the dog chasing after cars passing by.
The dog walked around with an injured hind leg. The dog roamed around the same neighborhood every day. Concerned persons followed the dog one day and found a house burnt to the ground. They assumed that being the dog’s home, or at least it was.
After interviewing the neighbors, they found out that the dog’s owners did live there. An elderly couple used to live in that house. But the grandma died recently. The neighbors said the house burned down, also injuring the owner.
Since then, the dog kept looking and waiting for its owner. The dog would always come ‘home’ every night and cry out for his human companions. The neighbors sometimes took pity on the dog and gave it food. Still, the dog would run away when strangers came too close.
Concerned persons decided to rescue the dog. Searching diligently in looking for the owner, they found him being treated for burns in a Seoul area hospital.
The owner did not abandon Ddol
The owner’s severe injuries made it impossible to come home just yet. When the rescuers showed him a video of his dog, he became emotional. He told them the dog’s name, Ddol. They hatched an ingenious plan to catch the dog so they could care for him.
The rescuers built a large metal cage near the remnants of the burnt house. They placed a laptop and a used garment. The piece of clothing had the familiar smell of the owner, and the laptop had the video of the owner calling out to the dog.
When the dog returned home, he recognized his owner’s voice. Though reluctant to enter the cage, Ddol went in. The rescuers finally secured Ddol.
Ddol’s new life with his owner
The rescuers brought Ddol to a veterinarian and had the dog treated for injuries. Both owner and dog recuperated separately, & after a few months they were both happily reunited.
Their story going viral, people wanted to help them. A new house was made together with a tiny house for Ddol. Their new home gave them new hope in life.
